Empowering Voices: Enhancing Women's Political Representation in India
Abstract
Women’s participation in politics is essential for the achievement of genuine democracy in India, a country with a rich democratic tradition but a significant gender gap in political representation. Despite constitutional guarantees of equality, the political sphere in India continues to be dominated by men, with women facing multiple socio-cultural and institutional barriers. This paper explores the current status of women's political participation in India, the historical milestones, and the obstacles that continue to limit their role. By examining policy measures, such as reservation systems, and analyzing the influence of grassroots movements, this study highlights the importance of ensuring greater political representation for women to achieve an inclusive, democratic society. The paper focuses on the need for transformative reforms that address gender biases and promote women's active engagement in the political process.
