Perception of Online Video Demonstration Approach on Instructional Delivery in Teacher Education Programme in Public Universities in Rivers State
Abstract
This study aimed at investigating the perception of students on the use of online video demonstration approach in instructional delivery in teacher education programmes in Public Universities in Rivers State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design with four research questions and for hypotheses to guide the study. A sample of 385 respondents made up of 139 from Ignatius Ajuru University , 116 from Rivers State University and 130 from University of Port Harcourt was drawn from a population of 2170 final year education students of the three Public Universities using stratified random sampling by proportional method. A self- structured questionnaire titled “Perception of Online Video Demonstrations in Teacher Education Instructional Delivery: A Survey of Public Universities in Rivers State" was used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated by the research supervisor and also by an expert in measurement and evaluation in the Department of Psychology, University of Port Harcourt Rivers State. To determine the reliability of the instrument, the Cronbach alpha method was used and after analyses 0. 82 indexes were found. Data analysis was done using mean and standard deviation , hypotheses were tested using t-test at 0.05 level of significance . The findings show that students are of the perception that the use of online teaching video demonstrations positively affects the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life teaching situation, online teaching demonstrative videos are not used to enhance learning experiences in teacher education in Public Universities in Rivers State and to a large extent online demonstrative teaching videos can impact engagement positively in teacher education. Statistically significant difference was found in perceptions between the students of University of Port Harcourt and Ignatius Ajuru University regarding the online video demonstration approach in teacher education programs, no significant difference was found in the impact of online video demonstrations on instructional delivery effectiveness between Rivers State University and Ignatius Ajuru University and there was a significant difference in the use of online demonstrative videos to enhance learning experiences for teacher education between the University of Port Harcourt and Rivers State University based on the provided data. The recommendations were: Faculties of Education should implement faculty training programs focused on effectively integrating online teaching demonstrative videos into teacher education curricula. Teacher education curricula should be reviewed and revised to incorporate a greater emphasis on the utilization of online teaching demonstrative videos. Allocation of resources should be initiated to support the development and implementation of high-quality online teaching demonstrative videos. Public Universities in Rivers State should establish pedagogical support services or centers within the University specifically focused on assisting faculty in integrating technology.
