Gandhi's Ideological Based and Leadership in India's Freedom Struggle: A Study

Abstract

This study explores Mahatma Gandhi's ideology and leadership in India's freedom struggle, highlighting how his unique approach shaped the course of the nation's fight against British colonial rule. Gandhi's philosophy was deeply rooted in truth (Satya), non-violence (Ahimsa), and civil disobedience, which not only mobilized millions of Indians but also transformed the nature of resistance itself. The paper examines how Gandhi's ideological framework influenced mass movements such as the Non-Cooperation Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, and the Quit India Movement. Furthermore, it analyzes Gandhi's leadership style, characterized by simplicity, moral authority, and inclusive participation, which helped unify diverse sections of Indian society. This study also evaluates the relevance and impact of Gandhi's strategies in both political and social contexts. By critically assessing Gandhi’s ideological foundation and leadership qualities, the paper provides insights into how his non-violent approach became a powerful tool in India's journey toward independence and left a lasting legacy in global freedom movements.
