Financial Management Practices Applied by Principals for Administrative Effectiveness in Public Secondary Schools in Anambra State

Abstract

The study investigated financial management practices applied by principals for administrative effectiveness in public secondary schools in Anambra State. Two research questions guided the study and two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 538 respondents (269 principals and 269 bursars) in public secondary schools in Anambra State. Census sampling technique was used since the entire 538 were studied because it is relatively small and manageable. The researcher developed questionnaire namely ‘‘Principals’ Financial Management Practices for Administrative Effectiveness Questionnaire (PFMPAEQ)” was used for data collection. The face validation of the instrument was determined by three experts of which two were from the Department of Educational Management and Policy, and one in Measurement and Evaluation Unit in the Department of Educational Foundations, all from Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Cronbach alpha method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument which yielded overall coefficient of 0.82. The researcher together with five research assistants collected data for the study using the direct approach method and 99% return was recorded.
