Abstract
This qualitative multiple case study examined the perspectives of non-academic employees in private higher education institutions (HEIs) located in China. The study focused on assessing the availability and effectiveness of formal career pathing, professional development opportunities, and succession planning, and how these elements influence employee engagement and retention. By exploring these critical areas, the research sought to identify strategies that HEIs in China can adopt to better support non-academic employees, ensuring their long-term commitment and contribution to institutional success.
