Disruptive Behavior In The Classroom: Recommendations For An Increasing Problem
Abstract
Disruptive behavior in the classroom is a worldwide phenomenon. Scholars, researchers, and members of the school community share their concerns about it. This article investigates the concept, causes, effects, and possible recommendations to improve the learning and teaching experience in our schools. The review of the literature shows several findings to take into consideration: (1) Disruptive behavior must be identified as soon as possible to prevent its development and carry out needed interventions; (2) The most effective action model requires the coordination among all the subjects involved: students, parents, teachers, counselors, and mental health professionals; (3) Whatever action taken must be under the guiding educational principle of serving the best interest of students; (4) An adequate approach of this problematic will result in a positive, welcoming, and engaging classroom experience.
