Motivating Educators for Excellence in Secondary School Music Programme in Nasarawa State
Abstract
This study investigated strategies for motivating educators toward achieving excellence in secondary school music programmes in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Specifically, it explored teacher attitudes toward music education and the effectiveness of motivational strategies in enhancing productivity. A survey research design was employed, targeting all 302 music teachers across 257 secondary schools in the state. Given the manageable population size, a census approach was adopted. Data were gathered through a structured and validated questionnaire, and the instrument’s reliability was confirmed with Cronbach’s Alpha coefficients exceeding 0.70. The administration and retrieval of questionnaires were facilitated by ten trained assistants, ensuring comprehensive coverage. Data analysis utilized descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) to address the research questions, while inferential statistics (correlation and regression) tested relationships between variables.
